Luo Min, Traditionally Contemporary

The history of Chinese painting dated back to the period of the Warring States (475 - 221 BC). Then they began to draw landscapes with mountains and rivers, and flowers and birds. They used painting not only to reflect nature and society, but also to express their emotions and praise certain characters through the reflected motifs. For thousands of years, painting has been able to capture, with an original style, the culture, the poetry, the philosophy and the unique aesthetic taste of the Chinese people, which has allowed it to reach an honoured state among the world's fine arts.

Depending on the motives and themes, Chinese traditional painting is divided into three types: portraits, which show interpersonal relationships; painting of flowers and birds, which describes the natural varieties and their coexistence in harmony with human beings; and landscape painting, which expresses the relationship between man and nature. The three types of painting are influenced by Confucianism and Taoism and constitute a unique creative style based on the ease of the strokes, which for centuries undertakes to perfect Chinese calligraphy.

In comparison with the western pictorial tradition, which prioritizes the perspective and the vanishing point, Chinese painting uses the form trying to represent a spiritual character; As Luo Min's work shows, it is not figurative art but suggestive. The same with the Chinese poetry, traditional painting reflects the painter's experience, his knowledge of society, as well as his ideals and principles. The meanings that are hidden in traditional Chinese painting are deeply emotional. This is Luo Min's traditionally contemporary painting, which using the classical parameters to declare herself, through the subtle and expressive movement of painting, so contemporary as reflective,of her cultural and social identity, setting all her pictorial mastery in value at the emotional service, from day to day.

In this exhibition "The surviving poetry", we can observe the latest works of Luo Min, full of chromaticism and light to produce an effect of serenity, well-being and harmony. When perceiving the exhibition, we have to take into account the presence in this series of the poetry of Zhengming Wen 1470-1559, one of the great classical Chinese poets, included in some of her paysage paintings.

Letting herself be influenced by his verses, Luo manages to reveal us through her painting, that inherent hermeticism in some poems, with rhythms and rhymes almost incomprehensible to the western audience, translating them into her painting teaching us to adore the little things, the nuances, the essence.

The mixture of elements such as calligraphy, landscape, water, the human figure, and more specifically the child element, transmit us the Chinese micro- and macro-cosmic conceptions of the universe, and the yin-yang. It is not a figurative art, but the result of the feeling experienced by the artist who, after contemplation, expresses it in her painting, an expressionist appropriation of nature very far from mimesis or exact imitation, as what happens with western aesthetics. It makes us recognize the Confucian conception of the world reflected in her works giving it a unique and recognizable identity sign that transmits us to a contemporaneity with denomination of origin.
